[Conference] Congrès 2024 de l’Association Française Droit et Management (AFD&M)

Date and Location – December 12 & 13, 2024 on IÉSEG Lille campus

THEME: Public and private sector initiatives and responses to global upheavals

—————————————–

Current upheavals, such as geopolitical conflicts, climate change, pandemics, inflation and so on, have created a period of unprecedented global uncertainty, affecting companies and international institutions alike. As the COP struggles to manage these global challenges, and the UN strives to formally recognize the climate crisis as a security threat, we are witnessing an erosion of trust in these regulatory bodies. States, faced with powerful non-state actors, are also navigating this crisis of confidence.

At the same time, disruptive technological advances, foremost among them artificial intelligence, are emerging with a significant capacity to influence institutions and social behaviors. These technologies offer potential solutions to crises, while presenting new challenges for both the individual and the community.

Faced with these global challenges, the legal world is undergoing a profound transformation, re-evaluating regulatory frameworks such as corporate governance, ESG taxonomy, and due diligence. Established legal notions are being called into question, while the growing importance of regulation and compliance requirements is redefining normativity by making it more complex.

Businesses, on the one hand, must adjust to these changes by becoming more sustainable and inclusive, while harnessing new technological tools and integrating equitable business models. Individuals, on the other hand, face a multidimensional challenge. They need to understand these major upheavals and adapt by changing their habits, acquiring new skills, or changing jobs. Everyone must also reflect on their own ethical responsibility, which involves examining their ecological footprint, their commitment to sustainable behaviors, and the way they use and interact with technology.

These transformations call for cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary dialogue. The annual conference of the French Academy of Legal Studies in Business (AFD&M) is the appropriate forum for discussing current legal, managerial, economic, and technological issues and their interactions with emerging behaviors induced by contemporary crises.
