ABSTRACT

The presentation will review the recent evidence on the labour market integration of refugees in Europe. First, it will document labour market gaps between refugees and natives and between refugees and other migrants across European countries and over time, using EULFS data. Then, it will analyse the role of conditions at arrival in shaping subsequent assimilation trajectories of refugees. In particular, it will cover the impact of economic conditions at arrival and that of asylum policies, such as geographic dispersal policies and temporary restrictions to labour market access. The presentation will be largely based on Fasani, Frattini, Minale (JEEA, 2021) and Fasani, Frattini, Minale (JoEG, 2022).
