The COPPEAD

COPPEAD is the Graduate School of Business of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ). Its origins date back to 1973 when it was created as one of the programs within UFRJ’s Coordination of Graduate Programs in Engineering. From the start, COPPEAD has been guided by a vision to create an educational institution capable of meeting the highest international standards in its field. The first formative years were marked by a considerable exchange of faculty with some of the best international business schools in the US and Europe. In 1983, COPPEAD moved to its own building within the main UFRJ campus and, soon later, acquired the status of an autonomous institute within the structure of the University, thus becoming the COPPEAD Graduate School of Business. The school has partnership with 39 Business Schools distributed in all five continents.

Since 2001, COPPEAD has been listed nine times in the global rankings of the top 100 full-time MBA programs published by the Financial Times. In 2012, it was again the only school in South America to be included in the list. COPPEAD is the only business school both associated with a Brazilian public university and that has international accreditation. IÉSEG and COPPEAD will exchange students at graduate level from 2013-2014.
