Project management, a new challenge for the manager

gestion_projetTo reinforce their competitiveness, more and more companies are using a matrix organization.

This implies that managers have to manage cross-functional projects as well as managing their team.  These projects can be varied:  launching a new product, restructuring activities, implementing new software tools…

Piloting a project can be an enriching experience for a manager, but the project leader’s job is not always a piece of cake.

The complexity of the project and its multiple participants requires the manager to be prepared, and to consider these five challenges:  function, technique, organization, time and cost.

From the beginning to the end of the project, the project leader must use reliable planning and cost control methods. In addition, since a project cannot be managed alone, the project leader must select the best team for the job.

One of the team’s jobs is identify the major risks in order to prevent them, or at least to manage them.

Lastly, the project leader and his team must communicate regularly on the project’s progress in the company, especially with decision makers.

To help your project managers, IESEG Executive Education offers a training program entitled: “Project management: tools and methods”.

For the project leaders with more experience, IESEG Executive Education also offers a more advanced project management course, “New challenges in project management”, which deals with team relationship dynamics, “agile” methodology and multi-project management.

Both these training programs can be tailored to your company.
